Think of the annual security audit that compares current user permissions against a baseline from a previous era, revealing the slow, accidental accumulation of access rights—the 'privilege creep' that is the sea level rise of technical debt. These are our long-run checks. They don’t fire often, and their findings are rarely urgent, but they protect against the existential threats, the ones that move too slowly for our daily alarms to notice.
The keepers of the Medemblik gauge understood that true reliability is built not on a frenzy of reaction, but on a foundation of patient, undramatic observation.
