It is the point where all the unseen, boring, foundational work is put to the test. It is the silence that proves the bell is sound, the pause that confirms the system is ready for the load. Our goal is not to avoid the tolling of alarms, but to build systems that can endure them, whose first and thousandth ring is as clear and true as the one Theophilus, eight hundred years ago, worked so carefully to ensure.
